A Tag allows GM's first right at re-signing a player after his contract expires. GM's will receive two annual FLEX TAGS that can be used accordingly:
1. Franchise Tag - simply put, Trouts contract expires and the GM can use a Franchise Tag, multiply his salary by 1.5 and re-sign him to 1-4 more years from original contract's AAS.
2. Restricted Tag - (See Biding Process for reference)
- During the RFA bidding week, you are allowed change/remove your original submitted bid for any player; However, any bid that has been changed (not removed) from the original will reflect as the new bid original bid time (this affects all tiebreaker scenarios).
- Staggering contracts are allowed (in off-season only), but you must adhere to the contract percentage rule (see below) and they will have an official deadline of one week from each final bid posting.
- Under no circumstances should any one year of the full contract exceed 125% or be less than 75% of the AAS (average) of the total/remaining contract.
COMPENSATION
$25+> [Tier 1] 1st round team pick, 2nd round team pick, and 1st round compensation pick
$21-$24.9> [Tier 2] 1st round team pick and 1st round compensation pick
$20.9-$17> [Tier 3] 1st round compensation pick and 2nd round team pick
$16.9-$13> [Tier 4] 1st round compensation pick
$12.9-9> [Tier 5] 2nd round compensation pick
$8.9-6> [Tier 6] 3rd round compensation pick
Comp Picks - Current FYPD (This Year)
Team's Picks - Next FYPD (Next Year)
*Comp pick order to be decided based on amount of contract and length (tiebreaker: Bid Value)
PLAYERS NOT BID ON: The retaining team then has the option to extend the player at a contract of (1-4 years/$5) or the other option would be to release the player as an UFA with no penalty
3. Tags are received annually. You receive two flex tags per franchise unless obtained via trade or traded away.
4. Tags can be traded if attached to a player. You cannot trade a tag without a player. Tag specification (for player(s)) is made by the GM during the off-season. If a tag is traded during the season prior to be applied, it has to follow the player in the deal and remain attached (i.e. Mike Trout w/tag attached) until further transactions with the player (see #9 for more information).
5. Tags are designated as FLEX and can be applied as either a Franchise or Restricted Franchise Tag at the discretion of the GM (only one FT per team per year).
8. This can only occur for an expiring contract. The club can only use ONE Franchise tag regardless of how many tags are obtained (via trade). For the purpose of the trade, it is assigned as a FLEX tag on the expiring contract. Meaning, it can be a franchised or restricted tag, However, only ONE player can be franchised yearly per team.
9. The only way a tag is released from a player after it is attached is when the player these events happen together: A.) clears waivers (without being claimed) and then B.) signs a new contract. If the tagged player is waived and claimed, then the tag will go with the new team. If not, the tagged player will remain in FA pool (after waivers) until signed or beginning of next off-season, then the tag is released back to the owning team.
10. You can transfer ONE tag (per team) into 4th rd compensation for the upcoming draft. This has to be finalized before RFA starts.
Protected Draft Picks
The bottom five teams (worst teams in the current season) will have protected 1st round FYPD picks (for the following off-season) when bidding in RFA.
- Only 1st round FYPD picks for the bottom five teams will be protected.
- If their bid qualifies as a winner in Tier 1 RFA compensation, the team pick will be replaced with a compensation pick immediately following the team pick
- Protected teams are allowed to forfeit their own protected pick in order to win two RFA players (the owner's protected pick goes to the owner with highest BV).
- If team pick is in the lottery, in the following season, the compensatory pick will be after the protected picks (i.e. 6th pick of next FYPD, after all the lottery teams picks)
*Tiebreaker: Bid Value for the receiving team pick.
*Example: NYM finishes in 30th place (bottom five), in which, their 1st round pick of that year becomes protected. NYM wins a player in RFA that qualifies for Tier 1 RFA compensation for the owning GM. The owning GM will receive the compensation pick one spot lower than where NYM picks the next season (i.e. NYM wins the league, their draft slot is 30th, so the compensation pick is slotted at 1.31).
RFA Bidding
TS (TOTAL SALARY): This is the total amount of salary offered in a contract.
BV (BID VALUE): This determines the value of your bid based on a percentage.
To allow for a better contract environment, bids are now given value based on dollar mount and years offered:
1 year = TS x 1.6 = BV
2 year = TS X 1.4 = BV
3 year = TS X 1.2 = BV
4 year = TS X 1.0 = BV
Mike Trout ---> Player B Bid 2 years for $20 ($40 TS) ($20 AAS) ($56 BV) <-- Winner
1. Franchise Tag - simply put, Trouts contract expires and the GM can use a Franchise Tag, multiply his salary by 1.5 and re-sign him to 1-4 more years from original contract's AAS.
2. Restricted Tag - (See Biding Process for reference)
- The player match can be made, or player can be released to the winning team, after the one-week bidding period.
- The match is based on the entire contract (years and AAS). AAS can be changed by staggering the contract's AAS per year (see below).

6. Tags distinction is not locked in place till the deadline. At that point, teams cannot change out the player or the tag designation, but can edit them beforehand.
7. Teams failing to post tags at the deadline may be auto-selected by the ADMIN.
8. This can only occur for an expiring contract. The club can only use ONE Franchise tag regardless of how many tags are obtained (via trade). TS (TOTAL SALARY): This is the total amount of salary offered in a contract.
BV (BID VALUE): This determines the value of your bid based on a percentage.

1 year = TS x 1.6 = BV
2 year = TS X 1.4 = BV
3 year = TS X 1.2 = BV
4 year = TS X 1.0 = BV
For example:
Mike Trout ---> Player A bid 4 years for $10 ($40 TS) ($10 AAS) ($40 BV)Mike Trout ---> Player B Bid 2 years for $20 ($40 TS) ($20 AAS) ($56 BV) <-- Winner
Priority list is not a requirement (although, highly suggested), but you will need to input your contract detail in the bid.
Bid Reduction: If you win multiple tier 1/2 RFAs, you will be given the option of reducing your bid to the max bid of the next lowest tier (only if this would result in you still winning the player). If you win multiple RFAs and this option conflicts with the compensation for both RFAs, it will only be granted for the FIRST bid, not the others.
MILB Option (Only for MILB players over the rookie limits)
- Each team will annually be granted ONE MiLB option for rookie players who have surpassed the MiLB limits (150 AB/50 IP), during the year. Post the player who has received the option in the assigned "MiLB Contracts" thread.
- When a player is assigned the MiLB Option, they will automatically go into RFA, after their contract has expired, in the Off-Season.
*Example: Mike Trout was assigned $2/3 MiLB contract on year 2019; he will go into RFA during the 2023 Off-Season.
Rules:
This is NOT another tag, so it has different rules:
- Once the option has been applied and the deadline has passed, the option CANNOT be removed from the player till it has been executed.
- The option CANNOT be traded seperately and/or returned to the GM for any cause, even if player has been waived, released, and/or no longer active in the MLB for any reason (death, suspension, banned, etc.).
- Players, who received the MiLB Option, can be traded, but the assigned option will go to the receiving GM.
- Players, who received the MiLB Option, CANNOT be franchised until the MiLB Option has been executed.
