There are two types of players in this league:
1. MLB
MLB player - players with >= 50IP or 150 AB - can only be acquired during the MLB draft, via trades or via the weekly FA Bidding.
Releases are subject to the 50% Buyout rule. Once player is waived, he can be claimed and team assumed full contract.
2. Prospects (MiLB Players)
A waived MiLB player (no MiLB contract) can be claimed by another team or they will re-enter the draft/FA pool.
* MiLB players (under 50/150) cannot be in active lineup, during regular season (unless deemed MLB player (see below))*
* In order to have an MiLB player (under the MiLB 150/50 limits) to be counted as a MLB player, they must meet one of these requirements:
- MiLB player must have at least one AB/IP in MLB
- MiLB player must remain in a MLB slot (reserves) to remain as MLB player, or the player will count as a MiLB prospect.
* MiLB players (that have at least one AB/IP in MLB) placed in any MiLB slots will be counted as part of MiLB prospects.
* MiLB players that are signed in FA, but still under the MiLB limits, can be placed in both MLB and MiLB slots (counted as MLB players).
- However, once the signed MiLB player passed MiLB limits, they must be on the MLB roster (unless demoted in IRL).
Once a prospect passes the AB/IP threshold, they are then considered an MLB player for the purposes of their roster eligibility. However, that players contract will not have to be determined until the off-season of the year, in which they become a contracted MLB player. During the off-season, you will need to decide on a contract length of that player (1,2,3 or 4 years) at $2 per year or you can release them into UFA.
Example 1:
Joe Smith pitches 63 (career total 63) innings in 2016
You must decide on the contract length during the 2016 off-season
You decide on a 3 year contract
Joe Smith : 2017:$2
2018:$2
2019:$2
Example 2:
Kyle Smith has 100 AB's in 2016
Kyle Smith then has 20 AB's in 2017
Kyle Smith then has 40 AB's in 2018 - bringing him over the limit
He must be assigned to a contract in the 2018 off-season.
You decide to give him only a 1 year contract as he seems to be having a difficult time cracking the MLB
Kyle Smith : 2019:$2
All waived players are subject to the 50% Buyout rule.

These players are free (no FA bidding on P players) and waiving them are free.
