This is a league poll for public opinion on this matter, NOT confirming a rule change.
Details:
Buyouts should be (at min) one year less than original contract with 50% of the buyout for the 1st year then rest of buyout managed by owner's discretion.
Ex: Player's A contract is $20/4 ($100 TS)
- $50 buyout that must be spread within three years cause of the four-year contract. - $25 must be in the first year of the three-year buyout. - The rest of the $25 must be spread between the remaining two years (owner's discretion).
Examples of a three-year buyout (last two years owner’s discretion): $25/$20/5.. $25/$7/$18.. $25/$1/$24
- One-year contracts would stay one year buyout.
- With this buyout, two-year contract could reduce to one year buyout.
Buying out contracts should always be an option, yet there should be a con of these buyouts as they can set the market and (as a high-priced contract) can be marginalized into a one-year buyout without any lengthy repercussions. This would increase the cap relief trading value (for receiving teams) and let teams manage their buyouts (in the backend of the buyout) freely.

People have enough trouble figuring out the options with the current simple system, keep it as is is my vote

People have enough trouble figuring out the options with the current simple system, keep it as is is my vote With the proposal, all teams would have to do is divide the total buyout by half (1st year) and spread the rest to their choice (or not based on the years of the contract). This should be too hard to follow as teams already figure out complicated buyouts with high-priced salaries.

Buyout system will remain the same as it wasn't close.
