How long should pick times be?

I only say 12 hrs cause we don't have much time to complete both MLB and MiLB drafts. As a few others know, 30-team slow draft will take months.

I think starting with 12 should give most, if not all managers, enough time to make picks and as we get rolling (maybe beginning round 10 or 12) we move the time to 6 hour limits.

We cannot do the inaugural draft with a 12 or 24 hour clock. We can move to that during our FYPD. I'd like to propose a scheduled system. For Example 1 to half hour slots from 8a-9p with time adjusting forward each day and an 8 hour forgiveness period or forgiveness by arrangement. We need to get 25 rounds done before mid March to make this year fun.

I guess if we went 12 hours and everyone is engaged in the draft and league it could be done in a couple months.

12 hours works because most people will submit their picks long before the clock expires. Pre-selected time slots might work but seems tricky when taking into consideration both time zone and randomized draft position.

Why not the 12-hrs and a grace period between the late nights?
For example,
Team A clocks started at 8 pm.
From 10 pm to 8 am, Team A will have a grace period Grace period is when the draft clock will stop at 10 pm and continue at 8 am for resting hours.
At 8 am, Team A draft clock will continue with 10 hrs left to pick.
Obviously, we need to find out everyone's time zone and find an agreement on how long the grace period will last.
a few rules that can help the grace period and 12-hr clock:
- the team on the clock can pick at any time during the grace period - if a team picks during a grace period, the other team's clock will not start until the end of grace period, but can still pick during the unaccounted hours.
what you guys think?

I like David's idea. We will see what others say.

I agree, David's idea would be good as long as its not too difficult to keep track of. Don't think it should be

I love that idea but again if the clock doesn't begin until the end of that 12 hour period we could essentially draft for the next 375 days.

Ex: Leafs are on the clock. He picks in 2 hours. Now the Habs are on the clock. Habs picked within a few minutes. Only waited 2 hours for two picks.
